Let's stick together

EGIJA ZIRAPA, RIGA

We are getting closer

“At university, we always had to keep a sketchbook for every project,” says Egija Zirapa when asked about her preference for collages. “And somehow I usually found the newspaper clippings collected in it more interesting than the final outcome itself – I loved expressing myself in them.” No wonder this technique became her favourite. After all, a wide variety of subjects can be combined to form an entirely new statement. This is an idea we like. Because at Wever & Ducré, designers, architects, and artists from all over the world work together to create something new. We asked Egija Zirapa to create a unique work of art for us. Where? Right in Latvia, her home country, where the mural was crafted in an old brewery in Cēsis.

„Once I get started, the ideas come naturally.“

About the artist

There are people you just can’t get out of your head. Artist Egija Zirapa springs to mind. Her work didn’t get the attention it deserved because of the pandemic. We asked her to further develop the collage she designed for us in 2020. To really bring the theme of togetherness back to the fore. “Great idea,” she said. She was immediately on board.

What inspires Egija? With a smile, she confesses that she can’t wait to start cutting up photographs and magazines. “I just can’t be stopped when I stumble upon an interesting photo.” A passion that’s very familiar to us. Our designers, architects, and artists can’t be stopped either. They harness a ton of creativity and enthusiasm when they develop something completely new.
