Exterior lighting

Private Residence Heckeweg, Switzerland

Leave a light on for me

Exterior lights guide us home safely after another late night out. Anyone who thinks they are merely a means to an end is doing them an injustice. Wever & Ducré's outdoor fixtures bring light into the darkness, keeping us on the right path. They also perfectly highlight architectural elements such as stairs, balconies, and decorative façades. Put their elegant design centre stage. Thanks to their high IP values, they don't even let dust and moisture steal the show.

GATE

THIS WAY PLEASE

No matter how romantic it may be, sometimes the light of the stars is not enough to get us home safely. That's where GATE comes in. The modern bollard light ensures that paths, driveways, or public spaces are well lit and transforms the garden into a cosy outdoor living room. The dust- and waterproof light is available as a model that emits light on one or both sides and can therefore also be used as ambient lighting.

GEO

LOOK AT THE FLOWERS

Spotlights emphasise what is important – even outdoors. That's why GEO IP65 can be used to emphasise paths or driveways, and also small exotic trees, sculptures, or architectural features. And all this in a remarkably simple way. The dust- and rain-resistant spotlight can be flexibly swivelled and securely anchored to the ground with a spike. This makes it the ideal tool for dramatic, beautiful lighting effects. Whether in matt bronze or anthracite. A quick tip: If you want to connect several lights, then you will be happy to know that this light is using our 24 V Plug & Play system that only requires a single driver.

REED

THE SHAPE OF NATURE

REED's biomorphic shape is reminiscent of long, slender reeds and blends in perfectly with its natural surroundings. It discreetly draws the eye to paths, sculptures, and other striking landscape features, and can be securely anchored to the ground with a spike. Thanks to its IP65 protection class, it is particularly resistant and securely protected against dust and rain. Perfect for gardens or parks, which it can illuminate in two lengths and two colours. By the way: If you want to connect several lights at once, no problem. It is foreseen for our 24 Volt Plug & Play system with just a single driver.

POLA

POLA LIGHTS YOUR WAY

POLA sets the perfect scene for gardens, driveways, or paths, ensuring safe and glare-free illumination of outdoor areas at night. Thanks to its slim, minimalist shape and subtle colour selection, it blends quietly into the landscape and can be positioned with a ground fixation plate or flexibly with a spike. This means that spontaneous parties, summer festivals, or weddings can also be illuminated simply and effectively. POLA is available in two lengths and two colours and can also be combined with several lights via our 24 Volt Plug & Play system. And all with just one driver.

Garden & patio lighting

getting the green light

The new terrace, the little path to the garden pond, or the old Japanese cherry tree – exterior lights can put all these things in the right light in any outdoor area. The key questions? What mood do you want to create? How to best combine safety and aesthetics? Garden designers recommend a colour temperature of around 3000K for patios and gardens. This provides a warm, cosy but still well-lit atmosphere. If you want outdoor lighting to remain subtle and blend seamlessly into the environment, choose the bronze versions of our orientation lights.

What else can you do with our exterior lights? Swivelling exterior spotlights such as STAKE FOLD or lights discreetly hidden in the lawn such as CARD and MAP ASYM are ideal for setting the scene for specific objects such as plants, shrubs, or decorative objects. Don't worry if the Thuja hedge is bursting at the seams again. Ground spikes make moving many of our bollard lights a breeze.

EXTERIOR LIGHTS

„Outdoor lighting has to meet two central criteria. It has to perfectly present the architecture at night, and it has to accentuate usable outdoor areas.“

LIGHT MY WAY

If you don't want to rely solely on your sense of touch on your way home at night, don’t forego modern outdoor lighting. It can safely illuminate driveways or stairs while skilfully accentuating them. It is particularly important for the shadows to be short and soft to avoid them being irritating. An indirect light with a colour temperature of 3000K is ideal for modern path lighting. LED lights such as TAPE make the perfect companion. These illuminate the path in the dark without glare and also attract fewer insects thanks to their indirect lighting. Talk about two birds with one stone!

Creative façade design

ALL EYES ON ME

No doubt: Architectural details really shine out in the evening hours and at night. So go ahead and play with light and shadows for an extra dramatic effect. Just like a perfectly lit stage, your home will become a spectacle on its own. The perfect prop: BOX, whose different light directions will project sophisticated patterns on the walls. But also TRAIN NARROW works well, as it features a small light beam upwards and a sweeping ray radiated downwards.

OUTDOOR WALL LIGHTS

Portable lighting

TAKE ME AWAY

Wever & Ducré garden lights make highlighting the most beautiful spots around your home easy. Currently much in vogue with lighting designers: Portable luminaires that can be arranged flexibly thanks to their integrated battery. With COSTA or REVER DINING, you can always let your lights shine where they are needed, whether it’s by the poolside, on the patio or at a moonlight picknick by the pond.  The secret to a harmonious outdoor lighting concept? Be sure to give the amount and positioning of the luminaires proper thought and align them with the overall architectural style of the house.

PORTABLE LIGHTS

Most important questions about exterior lighting

Apart from the IP protection class, care should be taken to use discreetly placed light sources selectively. Look for a warm-toned, soft light because the contrast between light and dark is perceived particularly strongly at night. We and our neighbours who like to keep their heads down – animals living in the vicinity – perceive overly bright light as unpleasant and blinding.

Playing it safe. Every one of our Wever & Ducré outdoor lights is IP-certified, which means they are optimally protected against moisture, dust and touch. The required level of protection always depends on the location and use. Lights that are built into the floor need to have a higher IP value than lights used in entryways. Sounds too complicated? It’s simple:

Every IP code has two parameters. The first indicates how well the light is protected against physical contact and dirt. The second one tells you the level of moisture protection. For dust protection, 0 stands for “not protected” and 6 for “absolute dust protection”. For moisture protection, the scale goes a little further: 0 also stands for “no protection” and 8 means that the light is entirely water protected. Not that hard, is it?

IP20
Lights with a low protection like IP20 don’t like leaving the house, which is why they’re mostly used indoors. Even in places the rain doesn’t reach, these lights shouldn’t be installed because of a possible condensation.

IP44
You want to accentuate a wall outside? If a roof overhang protects it, you’re good with lights starting from IP44. These are protected against splashing water and lighten up your terrace at the same time.

IP65
Lights with IP65 are recommended for use in the garden, as they offer the essential rain protection. With that, you ensure that not a drop of water enters the electric circuit – and your paths shine in the best light.

IP67
Lights with an IP67 are definitely not afraid of water. That’s why they love to hang out at the pool. The trick: These lights remain perfectly sealed and are dust-repellent. There’s no safer way to light up big water areas.

The perfect lumen density for outdoor lighting depends on the location and purpose. Many of Wever & Ducré's outdoor lights are fitted with phase dimmers to flexibly adapt to the changing needs of an outdoor area, whether you need good light at your house’s entrance because you can’t find your key again, or you want to craft a cosy atmosphere for the barbecue that’s gone on into the night. 400-600 lumens are perfectly adequate as a guideline for general patio lighting. If you want to illuminate certain areas particularly strongly, you should use lights with a higher lumen output.

There is a great light for every outdoor area, whether that be the path from the garage to the house, the staircase, the house façade, or the entrance area itself. Outdoor wall lights or even outdoor ceiling lights are perfect, for example, for the direct illumination of the entrance area or canopy lighting. For paths and driveways, however, bollard lights or recessed ground lights should be used. You can then start getting really creative in the garden and on the terrace. Anything is possible here, from floor spotlights that perfectly accentuate specific areas to portable lights that provide light wherever you are.

Of course, the main purpose of outdoor lighting is for orientation and to illuminate paths or areas of the garden or terrace at night. Beyond that, you can definitely get creative with your outdoor lighting. Try exterior wall lights to craft sophisticated patterns on the façade of the house or floor spotlights to give the new phoenix palm the spotlight it deserves. Those who do not like to be in the limelight, however, are burglars. Good outdoor lighting always offers a measure of protection against them.
